The Sumiyoshiya Ryokan is a very traditional Japanese inn that has been run by the same family for 300 years and it is the oldest such ryokan in Kanazawa. This hotel is known for its warm and friendly hospitality and some of the staff also speak English.

Though the hotel has been renovated with modern facilities, it preserves its old world appearance and atmosphere both with its magnificent exterior and inside with tatami matted floors, shoji paper doors, and huge pine wood beams supporting the ceiling. Sumiyoshiya Ryokan is also very conveniently located for sightseeing at major local attractions like Omicho Ichiba Market and Kanazawa Castle Park.

Bathing Facilities
Some rooms have private bathrooms and some do not. However, there are also two shared bathing facilities which have Japanese style communal bath tubs with showers. These two bathing facilities are separated by gender and are open from 16:00 to 23:00 and from 6:30 to 9:00.
Dining
Breakfast is served in the hotel dining room from 7:00 to 9:00. A Japanese style breakfast is available, and it is also possible to book a Western style breakfast with bread if you request this in advance. This ryokan’s cooking uses fresh ingredients bought daily from nearby Omicho Ichiba Market, including fresh fish and local vegetables, and the inn has an excellent reputation for home style local cooking. Dinner service is not offered, so guests should check directly with the ryokan before expecting a dinner-inclusive plan.
